Cabrilla species (seabass) are over any submerged rocks or reefs. There are hundreds of miles of coastline here that support cabrilla. On the fly they are easy to catch by casting and retrieving a weighted fly/flyline just above the rocks.
Cabrilla are opportunistic feeders and wait in their reefy den for dinner to swim by. Just make sure your fly looks like dinner to them.
Weighted flies work well on Cabrilla. They hit very hard and the will dive into the rocks to break you off. Focus on getting them up and up and out of the rocks immediately after the hook-set.
Cabrilla and Grouper species are available throughout the year but best from March through July, and October through November.
