Yellowtail (Seriola lalandii dorsalis) are caught throughout the year on conventional gear, even by novice anglers. Yellowtail on the fly however, are more difficult and considered expert level fishing. Occasionally there will be a school of YT that will show up somewhere in the water column within the reach of flies. This can be a one time event or it can become consistent in the same area for days. Swift current and upwells attract great numbers of Yellowtail to our area in the springtime.

The best months for yellowtail on the fly are April thorugh June.
